Utica, N.Y. – A mother in Utica is facing charges after she left a child outside in subzero temperatures for an “an unreasonable amount of time.”
Police say that someone passing by spotted the child with out proper clothing outside and alone. That’s when the person put the child in the car and after looking for the child’s parent called 911.
Police arrived and continued the search, but ultimately could not find anyone responsible for the 5-year-old child. The child’s grandmother eventually picked the child up from the police station.
Police say they have found the child’s mother, Mahelia Manuel, and have charged her with endangering the welfare of a child. She will be back in court on Feb. 5.
