A long prison sentence today for a Syracuse man who confessed to murdering his girlfriend after his first conviction for the crime was tossed out.
James Guilford fot 25 to life today in county court in the death seven years ago of girlfriend Sharon Nugent. He was found guilty in January for a second time.
His first conviction was thrown out in 2008 after a state court ruled that his rights were violated after Syracuse Police interrogated him for 49 hours without rest.
Guilford later confessed to the crime with his lawyer present. Investigators say Guilford murdered the mother of his three children and then threw her body into a dumpster. Guilford later filed a missing persons reports and then he moved to Georgia with his three children.
Her body was never found, but prosecutors beleive that Guilford may have burned her body.
