A Syracuse man has been charged with arson after city police say he set a fire at his Polk Street apartment.
The fire occurred at about 5:35 Monday after 54 year old Thomas Brennan allegedly set fire to some of his clothes and a chair which were against a wall in his apartment.
City Police say Brennan then collected some of his belongings, closed the door and started to walk away.
Two police officers quickly stopped Brennan on Polk Street as he was fleeing the scene. Officers Aylan Briedis and Eric Heppeler took him into custody.
The Syracuse Fire Department responded to the scene and put out the fire before it could spread even further. There were no injuries inside the apartment building.
Brennan has now been charged with second degree arson and the motive for the fire is unknown, but Brennan is now being held in the Justice Center.
