Syracuse Firefighters Tell Common Council They're "Scared" Of Station Closure

Syracuse Firefighters Tell Common Council They're

Syracuse firefighters told the Common Council that they were scared about the department losing Fire Station 7, which Mayor Stephanie Miner says she wants to close as a cost-cutting measure.

About a dozen people spoke in opposition of the plan to close the Staten on East Fayette Street, and that many or more firefighters were there. Other firefighters who spoke said the city is in danger of being short of firefighters on a busy night if the station closes. Community leaders like Green Party activist Howie Hawkins warned the council to not be "penny wise and pound foolish." Newly-installed fire chief Paul Linnertz says he doesn't believe closing Station 7 will change response time in the city.
