Over 100 cows will be on display and have been entered into the cow shows this weekend at the 2nd annual Big 6 Picnic and 4-H Country Fair at Emerson Park. This family friendly event has FREE admission and is open to the public. It features 4-H youth shows for cows, rabbits, poultry and dogs, an Open Dairy Show, a tractor parade, antique tractor display, farm machinery display, exhibits, a great food selection, vendors, kids activities, and live entertainment, including the Fulton Chain Gang on Friday night and the Custom Taylor Band on Saturday night.
This event brings back the Big 6 Picnic of the 1940’s and 1950’s held on the same site at Emerson Park. The Big 6 Picnic got it’s name from the leading organizations on the Big 6 Committee: Cayuga County Extension Service, Pomona Grange, Dairyman’s League Cooperative Association, Eastern Milk Producers Cooperative Association and Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association. It grew to be one the largest cattle shows held in this area, rivaling many nearby county fairs. It featured food, clothing, and cooking demonstrations by the Extension Service Home Department, a tractor pull, water ball fight by volunteer fire departments, a barbecue, and competitions for 4-H and FFA, including cattle, horses, sheep, hogs, poultry, and rabbits, as well as vegetable exhibits.
