Romulus, N.Y. - Authorities say a 37-year-old man has been charged in the slaying of a fellow inmate at a maximum-security New York state prison in the Finger Lakes region.
State police say Tuesday that the arrest of Brian Karris (pictured) came after a Seneca County grand jury indicted him on second-degree murder charges in the death of 24-year-old Thomas Blancke of Geneva.
Troopers say Blancke was found dead Dec. 14 in his cell at the Five Points Correctional Facility in the town of Romulus, 40 miles southwest of Syracuse.
State prison officials said Blancke had been at Five Points since July after being convicted of attempted burglary in Steuben County.
Police haven't released details of how he died.
Karris has been transferred to the maximum-security Auburn Correctional Facility in neighboring Cayuga County.
