Name of Burglary Suspect in Failed

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh identifies the burglary suspect shot by a sheriff’s deputy Monday afternoon as 58 year old Arcadio Figueroa. He was accused of stealing nearly $8,000 in proterty from the Onodaga County Parks Department where he was employed, and is also a suspect in the burglary of a home near his house. Deputies escorted Figueroa to his home at 207 Everingham Road to recover stolen items. While there, Figueroa was feeding one of his pet ferrets when deputies say he pulled a sawed off shotgun from between his mattress and boxspring. Sheriff Walsh says Figueroa held the weapon against his chin, shouting "Kill me! Kill me!" - then pointed it at the deputies.

Before Figueroa could pull the trigger, a deputy fired his service weapon at Figueroa, hitting him twice - once in the upper leg and once in his abdomen. Figueroa was transported to University Upstate Hospital. According to paramedics on the scene, the suspect’s injuries were non-life-threatening. Figueroa was  arraigned at University Hospital by Judge Kerr. He is charged with the feloniesof Menacing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, Burglary 2nd,Burglary 3rd (2 counts), Grand Larceny 3rd, and Grand Larceny 4th (2 counts). He is also charged with Petit Larceny. 

Criminal Investigation Division Detectives and Evidence Technicians are currently investigating the incident.
