Downtown Committee Wants Surveillance Cameras

Syracuse's Downtown Committee wants the city to add a dozen surveillance cameras to the downtown area.

The non-profit group will formally make their proposal to the Common Council March 18.  They call it a proactive approach to ensuring downtown Syracuse is one of the city's safest neighborhoods.  The 10 cameras would be part of Syracuse Police Department's existing camera system.  They would be paid for by the downtown committee and several grants.  The group says a recent survey found that 80 percent of respondents favored installation of surveillance cameras.
