The David Renz case is providing some motivation for a change in state law that automatically seals juvenile records with sex offenses.
Senator John DeFrancisco is proposing legislation allowing court officials to quickly access juvenile records of defendants facing sex offenses as adults. When Renz was arrested by federal officials on child pornography charges, they could not access juvenile records before Renz was able to get bail. Renz is accused of kidnapping and murdering Lori Bresnahan and raping a 10-year-old girl. Assemblyman Al Stirpe is proposing similar legislation in the Assembly.
