Comptroller Releases Audits Of Local Agencies

State comptroller Tom DiNapoli has released audits for the Camillus Volunteer Fire Department and Madison County Probation Department.

DiNapoli's office says both organizations did not have any major problems.  They did find that the fire department didn't have adequate controls over financial activities, and that there were some questions as to whether certain purchases were necessary.  They say it is common in such organizations where there isn't someone with experience in proper financial procedures.

They reported that the probation department has not been pursuing all possible revenue sources available to them.  The department can charge fees for such activities as probation supervision and drug screening.

DiNapoli's office says the audits are recommendations they make to these organizations, but they are required to submit a written plan to address the problems that are uncovered.
