The Syracuse Common Council voted to pass the city budget, but not without some drama.
The council added an extra expense item - $1.6 million for the fire department, which was unanimously approved by the council. That funding would maintain current staffing and cover overtime. In response, Mayor Stephanie Miner said that she disagrees with the decision to fund overtime for firefighters, and will use her power as mayor to not spend that money. The conflict is over the mayor's decision to close Station 7, which is likely to happen July 1.
