Skills

·         Adhere to all guidelines, policies and procedures of the station, iHeartMedia, Inc., the FCC and all other federal, state and local laws.

·         Adequate preparation for an air shift with use of creativity, imagination and exercise of independent professional judgment in writing, producing, interviewing, taping or broadcasting of on-air material.

·         Personality must be upbeat, informative and entertaining and be able to relate to station audience

·         Ensure logged commercials, promotions and programming essential to the stations operation are aired

·         Must be current with relevant daily material

·         Adhere to all company policies and procedures regarding indecency and obscenity.

·         Work an approved and previously agreed upon air shift.

·         Maintain a website personality page. Must be kept up-to-date with relevant material that is appropriate for the given station.

·         Search out and share all possible web content with the Program Director and Online Content Director of the given station.

·         Participate in regular listening/air check sessions for critique with the Program Director.

·         Participate in required station Programming, Promotions, and Sales staff meetings and events.

·         Make appearances at live remote broadcasts as talent

·         Execute only Program Director approved interviews and events on air during the regularly assigned shift.

·         Be on call for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.

·         Assist with the voice over and production of paid, and non-paid, spots required to run on the station.

·         Be an ambassador for the radio station when out in public. Maintain a positive and approachable attitude when around listeners and clients.

Experience

·         3 of on-air radio experience required, excellent verbal and communication skills, outstanding ability to relate and communicate with target audience, positive attitude both on and off the air

·         Familiar with NexGen, Vox Pro, and Pro Tools

·         Strong knowledge of all FCC rules and regulations.

·         Applicants must possess a strong work ethic, be well-read, punctual, and be a team player with a cooperative attitude

·         Applicant must be engaging on the air

·         Applicant must provide compelling content on the air

·         Valid driver’s license

·         Be able to drive a van

·         Ability to work weekends

Digital Program Director

Position Overview

The Digital Program Director is responsible for the broad based strategy, audience growth and for maximizing integration of all digital platforms in order to promote and benefit the core business.

 

Role Responsibilities

·         Oversees the Integrated Media/Programming department: responsible for strategy, audience growth, fully maximizing all digital platforms to the benefit of the core business.

·         Works with Programming to identify ways for on-air to grow our digital audience and for our digital efforts to grow our ratings.

·         Works closely with Integrated Media Sales to ensure that we're maximizing content integration opportunities.

·         Develops digital programming packages around station features and original content to drive audience and engagement for sites.

·         Oversees all social media activity for stations.

·         Performs regular analysis of statistics from Omniture and Ando and recommends and implements ways to grow audience based on this data.

·         Manages digital marketing for the cluster, including creating and executing online media buys.

·         Assists in securing exclusive content (e.g., music premieres) as needed.

·         Creates and manages third-party partnerships.

·         Primary liaison with CCRD on Programming issues.

·         Manages day-to-day mobile programs.

Required Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

·         3+ years of relevant professional experience

·         Proven success across marketing, strategy, integrated sales and business/revenue growth.

Digital Content Manager

The digital content manager will be responsible for maintaining and moving our sites forward with current industry trends under the direction and parameters of the digital program director.

The ideal candidate will be able to create new original online content and add existing content to our station sites and social media accounts as needed. She/he will understand and manage reporting needs for the team, and make design choices based on analytical data, and troubleshoot site issues and escalate when needed.

Preferred skills

·         Knowledge of adobe suite of products, but most important of them is Photoshop

·         Ability to implement SEO best practices on the sites

·         Understands the importance of reporting, how to secure it and manage it in excel files

·         Full knowledge of html

·         Ability to multi-task and oversee concurrent projects

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

HeartMedia is offering two summer internships in partnership with the New York State Broadcasters Association. This position will provide a qualified student with in-depth exposure to the radio broadcasting and digital operations at WBBS, WHEN, WSYR, WWHT, and WYYY. The internship offers the opportunity to explore career interests, network with professionals, develop an understanding of the broadcasting industry and have some fun while learning. Interns may choose to rotate through departments including Programming, News & Community Affairs, Production, Media Integration, Online/Web Development, Digital Video, Digital Design and Sales departments or to focus on a particular department (subject to operational capabilities).

Eligibility:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and enrolled full time in a college or university in New York State, or be a resident of New York State.

 

You will work a maximum of 180 hours through this program, and the hours are to be decided upon by you and the director of the program. This is a paid internship.

NEWS/TALK 570 WSYR PROGRAM DIRECTOR 

The Program Director position is a leadership and operations role responsible for leading and managing all aspects of a radio station's on-air experience, including talent, content, programming, and online presence.  A successful Program Director will review and decide which programs and commercials will be broadcast, and schedule programming.  The Program Director identifies, recruits, and coaches on-air talent with the goal of growing audience share, ratings, and revenue.  The Program Director also partners with the sales and programming staff to ensure appropriate programming fit for client needs, and to create talent & radio station marketing, promotion, and image campaigns.  The Program Director reports to an Operations Manager. 

Required Skills

·         Plan and oversee the on-air experience of the station, including tone, programming, production, sound & theme, website, online presence, and social media.

·         Plan each day's radio programming and provide the radio air talent direction on content.

·         Direct and monitor station's programming and activities in conformance with FCC rules and regulations, company policy and applicable federal, state, and local laws.

·         Evaluate programming available from distributors, syndicators, and independent producers to recommend acquisitions for broadcast.

·         Review and approve all commercial and paid programming content.

·         Attract and grow audience share, ratings, and revenue.

·         Ensure that ratings are calculated, and advertisers are satisfied.

·         Work with sales team to ensure appropriate programming fit for the client, station, and audience.

·         Coordinate with programming and sales staff to plan and execute marketing, promotions, events, and image campaigns.

·         Identify, recruit, manage, and coach on-air talent, producers, news directors, and reporters (eg.) frequent listening/aircheck sessions with on-air talent).

·         Schedule staff for on-air shifts, remotes, and appearances.

·         Ensure staff has taken/passed/maintained all company programs, plans, and training (RBI, Payola/Plugola).

·         Prepare and manage Programming Department budget on a yearly, quarterly, and monthly basis.

·         Handle all payables according to company policy and paid in a prompt fashion.

·         Protect the station license. 

 

Required Experience

·         Bachelor's degree, with an emphasis on broadcasting, communications, and journalism.  Marketing and sales experience preferred.

·         Extensive knowledge of FCC broadcast rules and regulations.

·         Knowledge of federal, state and local contesting rules and regulations.

·         Experience using tools to gather & analyze ratings data and then make business decisions based on the analysis (eg. PD Advantage, etc.).

·         Extensive knowledge of Nielsen Diary data analysis.

·         Working knowledge of RCS products including Nexgen and RCS News.

·         Knowledge and appreciation of excellent on-air performance, familiarity with radio programming.

·         Prior experience directing and managing a team.

·         Sound judgment and quality decision making skills.

·         Ability to multi-task and capable of working with specific deadlines, highly organized, and comfortable delegating responsibility.

·         Flexible, creative, and innovative in using technology to deepen listener relationships.

·         Ability to manage and motivate staff, in addition to working well as a member of a team (including advertising and marketing managers).

·         Ability to think both tactically and strategically.

·         Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.

·         Superior communications skills, both written and verbal.

·         Entrepreneurial and assertive in meeting goals.

·         Ability to set expectations with others and manage performance.

·         Ability to provide honest coaching and adjust communications’ style based on audience needs; Strong interpersonal skills.

·         Prior experience as a broadcaster, either in news, sports, or as a DJ preferred.

·         Prior experience as a Program Director or Assistant Program Director preferred.
